Building Repairs
All Saints' Church is over 150 years old
and showing signs of wear. In the
last few years major work has been undertaken to make the Church
safe, warm and useable. In 2002 the whole roof of the Church was
replaced.
Improvements have been made to the P.A.
system, on access for the disabled and on renovations to the organ.
Important work has been carried out to enable us to open the church
during daylight hours every day of the week throughout the year.
The kneelers in the church are being replaced,
with many villagers designing and sewing new kneelers. Improvements
are required to the electrical installation and to identify the
damp problem - and remedy it. The
belfry repairs have been completed and the windows are now being
repaired.
In late 2003 the church's lightning conductor
was inspected (as it is every five years) and the steeplejacks were
asked also to report on the condition of the spire. The report revealed
that there were some very serious structural problems with the spire
that needed to be dealt with immediately. The cost of the work was
in excess of £10,000. A very generous gift from the Friends
of Ferriby Church provided a significant portion of the cost and
the remainder had to be found from Church resources. The work -
and the cost, was wholly unexpected and not budgeted for. |

The original east-facing clock-face was
installed to commemorate the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria in
1897.
In 2002 many villagers felt that it would
be a good idea to install two new clock-faces on the spire in celebration
of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee.
Money was raised and new clock faces were
installed in September 2004. This picture shows the shiny new clock
face on the south side and the old one on the East side.

The privilege
of having a building such as All Saints' Church brings with it responsibilities
too - responsibilities to maintain, preserve and improve the building.
The Church is for ALL in
the village who wish to use it - whether for worship on Sundays
or in the week, for baptisms, weddings and funerals. It is an important
focal point for a significant portion of the spiritual life of the
village. Please use the Church and, if you are able, help us.
Guide
to All Saints’ Parish Church North Ferriby
has just been published. It contains an interesting history of the
village, church building & personalities from the 1000 or so
years of church history in Ferriby. It also provides a “walk
round” tour of the main features of the building & grounds.
Copies are available at the Post Office & within the Church
with proceeds to Friends of Ferriby Church, a charity which helps
maintain the fabric of the church building.
Parish Profile
As part of the process of choosing a new
vicar the Parochial Church Council in 2005 prepared a "Parish
Profile", following a model provided by the Diocese of York.
The profile is available on the village website for anyone interested
in finding out about the village and the sort of thing that goes
on in Ferriby.
