Not all in Vane! - a 5 ball
Sequel
An eagle-eyed resident recently pointed
out that the weather vane on top of the telephone exchange building
in Turner's Lane was no longer working. Our Clerk took it up with
KC, who removed the vane and cleaned away the debris which had prevented
the Arrow from showing which way the wind blows.
| However, our resident
pointed out the 5 balls were still not rotating. KC now tell
us that around 20 years ago the 5 decorative balls were welded
up to keep the original vane (which dates back to the 1800s)
intact, but in fact they never have moved. They are NOT an anemometer
(an instrument to measures the course and velocity of the wind
and has specially shaped cups - not balls). |

School
PTA Shortlisted for National Award
North Ferriby PTA failed to win
their category at the NCPTA awards, but to be shortlisted in the
final four out of seventy applicants is still a worthy achievement.
They didn't come away empty handed as the children were asked to
complete a word search and one of the Ferriby children's entries
won a DVD player for the school.
The judging committee were very interested in the mini library project
and encouraged us to enter again next year. Two pupils and two adults
represented the school at the awards ceremony at Lancaster House
in London and met the Minister for schools, Jim Knight MP.
