Gardens Open
11am – 4pm on Sunday 21st June 2009
Adults £3, Accompanied children – free
Plans are well underway for
this years Open Gardens event. To date twenty gardens have kindly
agreed to open; five of these being new to the event. In addition
one of the gardens has been extensively remodelled. The event
is once again being organised by the North Ferriby C of E Primary
School PTA committee and funds raised will go towards improving
facilities at the school. The event grows wider every year and
this year is no exception. New attractions this year include:
-
·
Riding for the Disabled will participate.
Take this opportunity to have a look around and see the ducks,
goats, donkeys and horses. The Brownies
will also take part. They plan to hold children’s activities
from their hut on the school site.
We are also pleased to be including old favourites.
Some gardens will be selling plants at great prices,
· children’s activities e.g. a scarecrow competition
and mini train rides. Refreshments will be served from a few gardens
plus the Parish Hall and Methodist Church. The school plan to
open their vegetable gardens. The village allotments will once
again be taking part. Don’t miss Bell ringing demonstrations
and Organ recitals, both from 3pm at All Saints’ Church.
There will be a thanksgiving service in the Parish Hall at 4pm
which will include performances from Ferriby school singing group.
Open gardens is a fantastic community event offering
something for everyone. It attracts hundreds of people from East
Yorkshire and beyond. With the 21st of June also being Fathers
day why not give all those dads a day off from their gardens andlet
them enjoy a pleasant day admiring what our beautiful village
has to offer.
Please put a date in your diary now for what
we hope will be a very successful event. Entrance costs will be
£3.00 per adult but accompanied children are free. Tickets/programmes
will be available from Swanland Nurseries, the village Post office
and Newsagent from early June and on the day from the Duke of
Cumberland pub car park or 4A Ferriby High Road. Contact Fergus
Aitken tel. 633545 fergus@aitkenf.karoo.co.uk for further information.
Open Garden events have raised in excess of £10,000 for
Ferriby school. In recognition of this fundraising achievement
representatives from the PTA recently attended a National awards
ceremony at the House of Commons in London to receive a commendation
from the National Confederation of PTA’s. We would like
to thank all those who have supported the event, particularly
those who have opened their gardens or participated in some other
way.
