You may also wish to let your parish council and ward councillors have a copy of your letter see Local Councillors for their details. Whilst unable to express an opinion publicly, your ward councillors are happy to receive and listen to applicants' and objectors' comments on planning applications. It is important that any serious concerns from either party are brought to their attention as soon as possible. Contact Cllr. Julie Abraham (Tel: 633746) and Cllr. Helen Gilmour (Tel: 634772).

How the Planning System Works

  • Applicant applies to East Riding Of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) for planning permission if needed.
  • ERYC refers the application to the Parish Council and other statutory bodies for comment, and residents who may be directly affected (such as residing next door) will be sent a letter telling them how to find out details of the application.
  • The Parish Council does not take the final decision but can recommend approval or refusal, taking into account views of residents who can attend Parish Council meetings to state their views. The final decision does not always follow the Parish Council’s recommendations.
  • The application can either be decided by officers under delegated powers or it can go to the Western Area Planning Committee for a decision, taking into account the Parish Council's and Resident's views who may be allowed to attend committee meetings.
  • An appeal by the applicant against an ERYC decision can be made to the Planning Inspectorate at Bristol who will give a final decision. This can only be challenged in the High Court.

Contact the Parish Clerk if you require any other information or assistance.
